The Challenge
The system administrator for Myrexis was tasked with finding the best communications platform available. Because there was no tolerance for downtime, reliability and redundancy were at the top of the list of requirements. A system that allowed desktop phones to integrate with their gigabit network was important. They also needed the ability to give their mobile employees the ability to connect to the
system and to have a simple and easy way to connect their clients for training. In addition, the system needed to support Windows, Mac and Linux environments and be easy for the staff to use.
The Solution
Myrexis began to examine the offerings of several competitors to determine which could provide them with the most feature-rich, cost-effective telephone system. Among the candidates were Cisco, Shoretel and Intellisys.
“In the end the Zultys system offered by Intellisys looked to be the best feature set, the easiest licensing, very good reliability and regardless of the smaller name was hands down the best solution,” said system administrator Landon Harsh.
The Zultys MX250 is an SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) standard 2U rack mount appliance that can support up to 250 users in a single device with the ability to scale to 10,000 users. Its extensive feature set that is all supported on-box, so there is no need for additional equipment or servers. Because of this all in one design it is very simple and cost effective to provide 100% redundancy with a simple N+1 configuration.
“In regards to the redundancy of the Zultys platform we found it to be much more tightly integrated and much more simplified. We wanted a phone system with the same level of redundancy as the rest of our infrastructure within our company which was a major factor in our choice. We also put in place an XRS-12 to automatically switch our PRI for dial tone” said Harsh.
Myrexis had deployed a fully gigabit network, and they did not want the phones to slow down their communications, so Intellisys provided SIP-standard Polycom 650 phones that provided integrated gigabit and full HD voice quality, which provided Myrexis with a degree of future-proofing.
As part of the deployment process, Intellisys provided staff members with training on the new system, making the transition simple and fast. Following implementation the training continued, enabling all the users to maximize the potential of the Zultys system.
The Benefits
Myrexis has enjoyed the reliability of the Zultys system provided by Intellisys, and its easy-to-use interface has given peace of mind to the management and staff, while improving their ability to communicate with their clients.
Their remote employees are able to connect to the system without the need for a VPN, via an onboard session border controller. In addition, the Zultys Conference Bridge and MX Meeting allow them to interact via Web meeting with their clients, maximizing their connectivity while reducing fears of network problems. The improved level of communications has also saved them money on business travel.
