While there are countless benefits of upgrading your old phone system to a new VoIP I wanted to focus on my top 3 favorites. # 1 Cost Savings: While there are many other significant advantages the cost savings that are related to deploying and using a VoIP phone system are in my mind the most substantial. While many people immediately think of long distance savings, and those can certainly be substantial, they are one piece of the overall benefit to a VoIP phone system. Intel published a study that indicated that the initial purchase was typically 55% less than purchasing a traditional PBX.  Most of this savings comes in the reduction of hardware required.  VoIP systems are typically small servers or appliances that are smaller,…

Zultys Rising

Intellisys began selling phone systems in 1970 after the divestitures of the Bell Companies and we have installed thousands of phone systems across the country and around the world.  We have installed and maintained phone systems from Avaya, Comdial, AT&T, Vodavi, Vertical, SwitchVox, Seimons,Digium,  Asterisk, Nortel, Lucent, Panasonic and many others.  Through all those years of Installation and support of the these systems we have never found a product and a manufacturer that we have been more pleased with than Zultys. Starting in 2001 Zultys made the right decision on producing a product built around the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) standards.  That decision so many years ago has allowed them to continue to provide cutting edge functions and features.  While others scramble to try and…

4 Steps To Eliminate Toll Fraud

TOLL FRAUD:  We have had several customers get hit with Toll Fraud recently and I wanted to discuss ways that you can avoid this costly event. Hackers will enter your telephone systems typically in two ways.  First is that they enter via the Automated Attendants and users mailboxes.  They will then press # or * to get access to a mailbox just like a remote user and start trying passwords.  These systems are automatic just keep trying combinations until they get a match.  When they get access they publish this information to their networks and they can rack up tens of thousands of dollars in long distance bills that you are responsible for.  The second way that they get access is via the Internet for…

Designing Carrier Redundancy with SIP

When it comes to redundancy there are many factors to consider.  In general, you will make the decision for you company that you are most comfortable with.  You can always spend more money and as some point you will decide that the cost is not worth the risk.    A Larger company with heavy phone dependency will obviously be much more concerned with designing redundancy in to their solution.  SIP or Session Initiation Protocol provides a new level of redundant options and that is another reason companies are flocking to SIP.   In this blog I want to talk about a couple applications that are most common. When it comes to the dial tone carrier there are a several ways to design redundancy.  Let me explain a…

Why Choose SIP?

When Intellisys began selling IP based phone systems in the late 1990’s each manufacturer used their own proprietary protocol to communicate with their phones.    Cisco used Skinny, ShoreTel used MGCP, 3Com, Mitel, Avaya all used their own protocols.  Thus you could only use a Cisco phone on a Cisco system and a ShoreTel phone on a ShoreTel system and so forth.  The manufacturers liked being proprietary as this allowed them to be the only source for phones and applications on their systems and they essentially had complete control over the applications available and most importantly the cost of the equipment.  This was a good position for the manufacturers but costly to the consumer. Zultys began operations in 2001 just before the emergence of SIP as…
